It’s been said that necessity is the mother of invention, and Holencik Roofing, LLC’s gutter installation arm is strong proof. Holencik Roofing, LLC has been in business for 30 years, and for most of that time Mark Holencik was content to sub out gutter installation to Lehigh Valley contractors. But after years of finding installers resistant to his preferred method of hanging gutters, 7 years ago he made the decision to hang them himself.
“I said, ‘I can’t deal with this anymore, I’ve got to get my own machine.’ I know the struggle roofers go through, they have to have the gutters done to have the job done, and I didn’t want to go into developing another end of the business. But to keep the quality up on my jobs, I had to do it.”
Holencik’s two major beefs boiled down to thickness and hangers. In the Lehigh Valley, Holencik says most gutters are .027 thick, and he prefers to use .032. He also prefers to put hangers every 2 feet. “That should be the standard, and a lot of guys start stretching that out to 30 inches, 3 feet, 40 inches between hangers. I didn’t want that.”
